Meet Our Writers: Kelly from Soul Pockets

by Angie on July 31, 2008 · 5 comments · faith, why we homeschool

Once a week, we will be taking some time to get to know some of the writers here at The Homeschool Classroom. We hope this will be a way for you to learn more about the women here at The Homeschool Classroom, and maybe find someone you have some things in common with! (And, maybe you’ll want to check out their blogs too, while you’re at it!)

Our first interview is with Kelly from Soul Pockets

So, Kelly, tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

My name is Kelly and I am 33 years old. I have been a stay at home mom for 7 years. I have four beautiful children and I have been married to my wonderful husband for 11 years.

My life revolves around my family and our Catholic faith. I love to read all kinds of books, from horror to classics. My taste in music is the same, if it sounds good or speaks to me it does not matter what type of music it is I will enjoy it.

My blog is a reflection of my life. It is about being a mother and being a Catholic women. I blog about things I do in hopes it may help someone in a similar situation. I blog about the Catholic faith and my experiences on my personal spiritual journey. I also blog about being a mom and what that entails.

Can you tell us about your kids?

I have four children, Miss 9, Lil D 7, Bug 3 and Oney 18mo. Miss will be in the 5th grade this year and Lil D will be in the 2nd grade.

Do you use a specific approach to homeschooling or a more eclectic approach?

As of now, I don’t have a specific approach to homeschooling. I am not using a set curriculum, although I am using set subjects. I picked the curriculum for each subject based on if I thought my children and I would enjoy it. I have leaned more toward a classical curriculum overall.

What do you hope that your children will gain from homeschooling?

I am hoping they will enjoy learning. I am hoping they will not see their education as something they have to just “get through” but something that is a fun part of their lives that includes the whole family.

Have your children exclusively been homeschooled or have they attended public or private school at some point?

My children have attended a Catholic private school up to this point. Miss has gone for 5 years and Lil D has gone to school there for 2 years.

Why did you decide that you wanted to be a writer for The Homeschool Classroom?

I decided that I wanted to write for The Homeschool Classroom because, I think since I am so new to homeschooling, I might be able to help those who are just starting or thinking about homeschooling.

Maybe they are feeling overwelmed or unsure of themselves. If they can read that a newbie can homeschool, they may get the confidence to do so as well.

Also I think it is very valuble to be apart of a homeschool community, wether it be in the real world or through the blogging world. I think writing for this blog will teach me to become a better homeschooler.

Well, we’re sure happy to have you as part of the team, Kelly! Is there anything else that you want to share to help us get to know you better?

A perfect day for me would be surrounded by family and friends talking, eating a good meal, and watching the children play.
