Follow Up to Naming Your Homeschool

I wrote earlier this month about naming your homeschool, as well as choosing a mascot and your colors. I will, again, encourage you that if you only do one of those things, naming your school will be the most beneficial. Not only is it great for identity, but there are also many forms that you may fill out for products that not only ask for a school name, but require that you fill something in.

If you didn’t catch the article the first time around, you can check out the article on picking a name, mascot, and colors for your homeschool.

My purpose for the follow up is to share a couple of websites that I found after originally publishing the article that I thought might be helpful for those who might be stuck on names and/or mascots.

Here is an article about naming your homeschool. It was written ten years ago (although I find it very hard to believe that 1998 was TEN years ago! Wow!), but naming a homeschool doesn’t change much over time. One thing I really liked about this article was also that there is a decent sized list of people who have submitted what their homeschool name is, and why they picked it.

This site has all kind of graphics of mascots. This can be great for brainstorming who your mascot may be. But, then as an added bonus, you can actually buy graphics from them for doing things like making t-shirts, etc. Some of the sites that I looked at charge $100 or more per graphic. Most of them at Rival Art are right around $10.

When we started to homeschool last year, that was the first thing we did to make the transition easier and make our kitchen & playroom feel like a "real" school to my daughter. She named it Pinky Robyn Elementary.

Our mighty mascot? The Pink Flamingo, of course. I am sure you can guess what the school colors are.
