Meet Our Writers: Katie from Just Another Catholic Mom

This week, our interview is with Katie from Just Another Catholic Mom.

Tell us a little about yourself and your blog…

I’m Katie, wife and SAHM extraordinnaire . My blog focuses largely on my Catholic faith, homeschooling, and homemaking. When I find time I like to knit and crochet (rather pathetically) and read.

Share with us a little about your family…

My husband Tyson and I have been married for 7 years. We have three little girls- Bailey is turning 7 soon and will be in 1st grade this year. Riley is 3 and will be venturing a bit into pre-K, and Rory is 4 months and will mostly be giggling and drooling this year, in addition to learning to sit up and walk.

Do you use a specific approach to homeschooling or a more eclectic approach?

As this is our first year homeschooling, I haven’t developed a specific approach. I am geared towards classical education, though. For the moment we’ll largely be using Catholic Heritage Curricula, along with Prima Latina and Story of the World. So perhaps a “neo-classical” approach would describe us!

What do you hope that your children will gain from homeschooling?

I hope our children love learning and exploring in the flexible environment that homeschooling provides.

Have your children exclusively been homeschooled or have they attended public or private school at some point?

Our oldest daughter attend a Catholic school for 2 years of preschool and kindergarten.

Why did you decide that you wanted to be a writer for The Homeschool Classroom?

It sounded like a great idea and I’m eager to share my perspective as someone new to homeschooling.

Is there anything else that you want to share to help us get to know you better?

I’m always learning myself! Education should never stop. I have an Associate’s degree in psychology and I’m currently reading through Jane Austen’s books, after I realized I had never read any of her work.
