My kids love playing with Legos. They love creating their cities, vehicles, and people. They like separating the blocks into different sizes and shapes. I love watching the logical thought process they go through as they figure out which piece makes the most sense where. Imagine my joy when I was told about Math U See.
The premise of the program is simple: Build, Write, Say. There are blocks representing the units (1-9), 10′s, and 100′s. As they do the problem, they build it using the blocks, say what they’re doing, and write it down. This helps to reinforce the math skills and helps them to master the facts versus just memorizing them. There are 13 books in the program. We are currently working through Book 5, Delta, which focuses on single and multiple digit division; and Book 2, Alpha, which focuses on single digit addition and subtraction.
I asked my boys what they liked about Math U See. My 1st grader likes the blocks. When he’s done with his day he sometimes will chose to build cities with his math blocks, counting as he builds. My 5th grader likes everything. He says it makes it easy to learn math by going step by step.
We love Math U See! However I know that not every curriculum works with every family.
So…. Here’s where I ask for your thoughts, dear readers…. What do you use for your math curriculum? Do you love it? Do you just tolerate it? If you absolutely love it, why? What makes it so great?

I’ve heard a lot about Math-U-See, most people seem happy with it!
We use MCP, which we really love. It’s just very basic math sheets, and the teacher’s guide has lots of good activities and mental exercises, but my 1st grader really loves it (most days, anyway!)
Dear Math Enthusiast,
Hi. I am a Middle School Math teacher. I spent the summer making a website geared directly for grades 1-8. I want students to have a site where they can practice their math skills while still having fun. I have personally made most of the games.
If you have a place on your website to put a link, please do so. My site is located at: http://www.HoodaMath.com
Feel free to email me back with a link or a suggestion.
Thank you,
Michael Edlavitch

I'm home schooled and am going to be a 10th/11th grader in the fall. Me and my brothers use Math-U-See as our math curriculum, and I LOVE it!! It is so straight-forward, simple to use, hands-on, and it MAKES SENSE! I came out of public school in 7th grade, and after using the curriculum they had I wasn't exactly thrilled about math. But after I started to use Math-U-See, I got so much better at Math, and began to enjoy it again!
