Christmas Card Crafts

It’s that time of year again — time to collect Christmas cards and old calendars for next year’s craft projects!

One of our favorite mediums for creating projects are Christmas cards and calendars. They offer beautiful pictures and unique lettering, usually on quality, heavy papers and often with interesting details such as embossed pictures or letters, glitter and textures.

The kids like to use the pictures to add fun details to their own drawing or collages or to recreate their own cards or gift tags. And, we usually have a large supply since friends and family are willing to give us their cards after Christmas.

A friend recently gave me the idea for using the little round, metal caps from the ends of tubes such as refrigerated biscuits or frozen orange juice to make gift tags or Christmas ornaments. That may be a project for us this week. Those little metal caps would make a great base for our re-purposed Christmas cards.

So, don’t throw out those Christmas cards and last year’s calendars! This is much more fun than tossing them into the recycle bin!
