Homeschool New Year’s Resolutions

Every year about this time most people start thinking about whether or not they want to make any New Year’s Resolutions. I stopped doing the traditional kinds of resolutions (lose weight, go to bed earlier, exercise, etc) a few years ago when I realized that many times if I didn’t make those resolutions I ended up feeling much worse in the end. It was depressing.

Last year I wasn’t going to make any resolutions but then had a change of heart when I received a very special list in the mail from one of the area churches. I decided that I would indeed make resolutions and I was glad I did. They ended helping me be a better person in the end. If you want to read that list you can do so at my blog here.
This year I contemplated what I wanted to do in regards to making resolutions this year. Instead of just focusing on myself I figured it might do our family good to make resolutions for school. I asked the kids what they thought would be good to focus on in the upcoming year for school and this was the list of resolutions we came up with…

In 2009 we resolve to:
  • Go on more field trips
  • Go to the library more
  • Do more arts and crafts
  • Read more books together
  • Have class outside more often
  • Learn about a far away land
  • Do more science experiments
  • Have class with some of our friends from homeschool group

We decided that we wanted to resolve to do more fun things. Some days the seriousness of life gets in the way and we need a little more adventure and fun in our daily lives. I hope through the list of resolutions we made we will be able to make this happen!

So have you made any New Year’s Resolutions either for yourself or your family?

When Michelle isn’t contemplating what the new year will bring for her family she can be found writing about her family at Pass The Flu Bug Please.

I also want to do more arts & crafts. Also, setting my sights on next school year, I want to go with a different curriculum and start Spanish. (Actually, I would prefer French, because that's what I did in school, but I suspect Spanish is a million times more useful.)
