Our school week was disrupted twice last week by service workers that came to the house. At first, I tried to continue on with school as usual. I thought we would go about our business and the workers would go about their business.
I quickly realized that I was wrong. That was not how those mornings were going to go.
Instead, both days, the kids began to actively engage the workers about the tasks that they were doing. And, to my surprise, both of the workers seemed more than happy to talk to the kids, as they went about their work.
The kids learned about the digital cable that was being installed, which was fun for me as well. And, then the next day, the kids learned about the ants that had suddenly and out of nowhere taken over one portion of our kitchen counter. This, sadly, was not as fun for me. (It seems that a small addition to our home this summer has probably messed with some outdoor ants.)
So, yes — we could have acted like the workers weren’t there and gone about our business. But, instead, we stopped what we were doing and I allowed the kids to learn from different teachers.

How exciting! We (hopefully) will be getting a new dishwasher soon, I think I will take the time to have Genius engage the serviceman that installs it, in a conversation about his career! Thanks for the idea.
Thats what its about isnt it…. going with the natural flow… =)
You should give them a pop quiz about the basics of what they learned in a few days… to help retain it… lol…Hope your having a fabulous day!
