Amazing Facts About The Human Body!

Right now we are studying the human body. While Kaylie, my 10th grader, is looking at more in depth, my younger children are more interested in the amazing things that our bodies can do and what is happening within them.

Here are some facts that we have found to be quite interesting. Our bodies are truly amazing!
  • Without a skeleton, your body would collapse. While our bones are as light as aluminum, they are as strong as steel.
  • Your musclular system as over 640 muscles enabling you to do both large and minute movements.
  • A red blood cell can travel around your entire body in about 20 seconds… that’s fast!
  • Only about 1/6 of your eye is visible from the front.
  • Your sense of smell is about 10,000 times more sensitive than your sense of taste.
  • In an average lifetime teh heart will beat about 3 billion times without taking a rest!
  • If you stretched out your blood vessels they would wrap around the Earth 4 times!
  • If you could stretch out your digestive system it would stretch to about 30 feet (that’s about as tall as a 3 story house!)
  • Brain cells can last a lifetime… so use them wisely!
