Today is President Lincoln’s 200th birthday!
You can even get a “goodie bag” if you visit the party at www.abrahamlincoln200.org.
This site lets you download historical timelines, lesson plans, Lincoln’s famous speeches and other educational resources. Games, coloring sheets and podcasts are just some of the things you find!
I also want to tell you about a great book about Abraham Lincoln.
Written by Sam Wellman and published by Barbour Publishing this is a biography written for children about Abraham Lincoln. Starting out with his young childhood, this story is told from a Christian point of view, chronicling Abe’s life through to his presidency. I would say that this is appropriate for a read aloud from ages 5 up, and and for fluent readers ages 7 and up. I really enjoyed reading this, and finding out details from Abe’s childhood that maybe aren’t as well known as others. It is always fun for kids to read that presidents were once children like them too! This is a really good book for your homeschool bookshelf. Right now you can pick it up for an incredible price at Christian Book Distributors as well! Abraham Lincoln: The Chronicles of Faith Series.
So let the celebration begin. Visit this video at Expert Village to make a Stovepipe Hat. And if you want an authentic birthday cake to go along with your festivities visit FoodDownUnder to make Mary Todd Lincoln’s White Almond Cake, which was President Lincoln’s favorite!
I have no doubt that you could spend a whole day partying with President Lincoln, so if it gets to be too much, save some room for February 16th, and have some other presidents join your party!
