Everyday math….

I apologize for the delay! I was working on this and forgot to set it up on blogger before I went to bed.

I have a child with a thing for numbers. When we shop, he figures out how many quarters are in what we’re buying (did you know there’s 48 quarters in $12.00?? I didn’t.) If we’re eating at McDonalds, he’ll look at the nutrition count and figure out how many calories we’re eating (eeek!!!). His brain works in numbers, and it’s fascinating yet scary at the same time (my brain doesn’t work like that!).

I’ll admit, I have a problem with math. I can figure easy things, like what 50% off is, I frequently ask my husband “20% off $83 is what??”. Now I can just ask my 10 year old!

Lately we have started playing the opening pricing game from “The Price is Right” when we shop. As we unload our cart we all will guess how much we’ve spent, the person closest without going over wins. DS#1 will make his guess, then as soon as hubby makes his he changes it and keeps going up and up.

I am not a fan of math, but having a kid who’s so excited about numbers is really cool. His brother has started picking up the love of math also. I think I need to start brushing up on my grammar and figure out how to play writing games while we shop!
