I had such a great time reading our last Q&A about whether our readers had a traditional summer break or if they homeschooled year round, so I wanted to have another one this week.

We homeschool about 4 days a week…..typically about 2 hours total a day (with many breaks in between!)
Hello, I am new to this site and looking forward to some great information.
We typically homeschool 3-4 hours a day. Some days more, some less. This past year was 1,2, and 3 grade.
Our blog is at http://www.we3kids.blogspot.com
I can’t wait to see comments on this one! We usually spend about four and a half hours a day on instruction, reading aloud, and independent work (that includes our breaks, though). Right now we work in the afternoon because that’s when my very loud toddler naps – we’re able to get a lot of the actual instruction done then so I can focus on him a little more when he’s up.
We do formal schooling 4 days a week (with a “flex day” in the middle) and usually spend about 1.5-2 hours a day. Next year I think it will end up being more like 2.5-3. We usually have school in the afternoon after we’ve had lunch and the baby is napping!
I have one daughter in first grade and we homeschool for about 3-4 hours a day four days a week. That 3-4 hours includes time walking outside, drawing, listening to stories, as well as “curriculum” work.
Our state requires that we school 4.5 hours a day and we generally stick pretty close to that. I plan what I consider to be a full days’ worth of work. If the kids finish early, I don’t punish them by adding busy work to reach our required time. I figure they’ve earned some extra free time.
Conversely, if they goof around and it takes them longer than that to finish their work for the day, that’s their lesson in time management.
Well, I could be snarky and say that kids learn all the time, so we’re schooling whenever they’re awake, but I’m guessing that’s not the question you’re asking!! My kids are 11 and (almost) 14. My 11 year old does 3-5 hours of dedicated school work a day if you count his extracurriculars such as dance and drum practice. My 14 year old has been doing 4-5 hours, but will be upping that next year to 5-6 hours since she will be doing 9th grade work. In first and second grade, they were lucky to get a full hour a day of formal school activities. The time has slowly increased.
My daughter is only 5, so we didn’t have a set schedule for instruction or learning. Some days we’d do several activities and other days we didn’t do much.
Kris, you took the words right off my keyboard! LOL I echo everything you wrote :)
With my 2d grader it’s around 2 1/2 hrs on a good day (on a bad day she’s spent 4 or 5 hours cheerfully sitting and not doing her work).
With my 5th grader, it’s a bit harder to judge- she spends about an hour in the morning doing her daily work and then has more work which should be done by the end of the week (it’s set up as a checklist and she is required to at least x number of items on the checklist everyday). Some days she’s working all day, on a normal I’d say it may be another two or three hours, every once in a while she gets her weekly work done before Friday. It all depends how she organizes her time.
We homeschool for 2 hours per day six days a week. This year we missed a lot of days so all I can say is thank goodness we school year round! ha ha
We school about 3-5 hours per day. Always interesting to see what everyone has to say (:
I just have one to homeschool right now (hoping to adopt more). He just finished 1st grade. It took about 3 hours, 5 days a week. Kindergarten was about an hour, 5 days a week. I'm considering going to 3 or 4 days a week for more flexibility. Any suggestions from someone whose been there?
