I finally got to go to a curriculum fair this past weekend! Although I rarely need to purchase much in the way of actual curriculum by the time this particular fair rolls around, I always enjoy going. It’s a time to socialize, re-energize, and browse all those wonderful books. I only bought a couple of things this year, but I’m really excited about both.
First, I bought the books The Princess and the Kiss and The Squire and the Scroll, two beautifully written and illustrated books about purity for young boys and girls. I also bought the accompanying study guide for each. It is my hope and my plan that I will spend at least one afternoon/evening a week with my youngest girl and my husband with our only boy going through the discussions and activities in the study guides. I hope that, not only will they each receive the message about keeping their hearts, minds and bodies pure, but that they will also enjoy some one-on-one time with their dad and I.

The other thing I was most excited about was a little “flip-chart” mix-and-match book of writing prompts. The series is called Write-Abouts and the particular book we got is the “Point of View” one. Each little book is divided into three sections that can be flipped independent of each other, giving you, literally, thousands of combinations.
The first section in “Point of View” tells the writer what to write (a newspaper article, a review, a poem), the second tells him about what to write (a fantastic new product, a scary movie) and the last section tells him from which point of view to write (an ant, a complainer, a genius). Even my reluctant-writer daughter is excited about playing with these story starters.
Have you been to a curriculum fair this year? What was your favorite purchase?

I love those Write-Abouts. I have the silly stories one and I like the point-of-view one. I don't think I've seen that one before. They are great at motivating kids to write. They love flipping them.
I've never been to a curriculum fair. Hopefully I will go next year. But thanks for the reminder about the book: The Princess and the Kiss. I had forgotten all about this book. I want to get it for my youngest.
I just love being able to really see everything when I go to a curriculum fair, although I find that I spend too much money. Augh!
One thing that I really liked that I picked up this year was Artistic Pursuits. I had thought of it before, but it made such a difference to be able to flip through it.
