Our curriculum for the 2009-2010 school year

Forgive me for a simple post, but I’ve been dealing with some recurrent insomnia and am just not up to anything that requires much thought at the moment! Plus, I always like to see what others are using for their school year, so hopefully at least some of you will find it interesting.

As many of you know, last year (1st grade) was our first year homeschooling with our oldest daughter. We chose to use Catholic Heritage Curricula for most of our subjects primarily because it is a strong Catholic company, and the lessons are pre-planned (and you know how awful I am at planning!) We were very pleased with CHC, I found it to be thorough but also very gentle for young children. We’re largely using them again this year, but I think we’ll be moving more towards classical education as she gets older.

We will once again be using CHC’s lesson plans.

Please keep us updated on this. I have a 2 year old and really like their stuff so I am very curious. I think I will use them too.

Memoria Press has fantastic stuff – we used the Famous Men of Modern Times set last year and are using their French Curriculum!

That is great that you have the curriculum ready. I just spent the day going over our calendar, curriculum and materials needed for this Fall.

I really enjoy the CHC materials too, however I found the science curriculum very bland. We used the Stories from Science 2, but instead of the 123… we picked up some school texts that worked much better. We used Harcourt Brace Jovanovich that we found at a homeschool book fair that worked out super. Later on, you will find the CHC offerings even worse (they get into magnitudes) with a program by Mary Daly called Universe in My Hands. We found that extremely useless. Don't get me wrong, CHC is awesome. We use them for almost everything else. We do supplement Seton for English and History. Seton is stronger in the English category so we do both CHC and Seton. Hope this helps! Btw, love your blog.

@ MN Toni — I liked CHC's 3rd grade science. It was actually one of the few things that I kept using from CHC last year (I started out the year with almost all CHC stuff). This coming year though, the only CHC I'm using is the Language of God series.
