Geography games we like to play

I’ve never been one for teaching geography as a separate subject. I just can’t seem to fit it in consistantly. Also, we learn geography through history, because our history program takes us all over the globe each year. As this happens, our children learn a great deal of world geography. If anything, I need to do a United States geography course. Traveling up the east coast seemed to have cemented in those states, maybe we should travel out west next. (It’s in the plans!)

What we like to do to get our daily dose of geography in, is play geography games as a family. In the above picture we are playing Take Off. We like to play it in teams so the little ones can play too. Here are the geography games that we like and play:

Scrambled States of America card game
10 Days in Europe
10 Days in Africa
Mad Dash
Ticket to Ride
Snapshots Across America
Take Off!

It works for us and we are all playing and learning together. Are there any other fun geography games that I’ve missed that your family likes to play?

We had that game! Unfortunately, we had to give it away before we moved across the country back before Christmas because it was too big to go in a suitcase – we moved with just six suitcases, the max allowed on the plane.

I do have Where in the World? on order from a hs retailer though, should come soon enough. :-)

We love Ticket to Ride and have the Nordic & European versions… but not the US (believe it or not).

We're doing homeschool preschool right now. We found a world map jigsaw puzzle at a yard sale. My boys love putting that puzzle together and love asking me questions about where things are on the map. They already can point out which state we live in.
