After reading about the writer's notebook on that website, I have a question. Did you find printables for each section of the notebook or did you make your own? Did you do yours the same as the example?
Thank you!! :)

I love this idea and it seems like you could vary the assignment cards easily to coordinate with unit studies. Can you give a specific example of a red, yellow, and green card. I think I might make our own writing center over break and that would be helpful for me.
Thank you!

Sure! Here are a few ideas:

Red:
Choose a poem to memorize and recite it at the end of the week.

Make a list of 10 words. Use the thesaurus to find and antonym and synonym for each. Write a sentence with 10 of the new words you found.

Choose any person or topic that interests you. Look the person or topic up in the encyclopedia. Read the entry and write about what you learned, in your own words.

Yellow:
Write in your story book journal.

Pick and animal and imagine that you are that animal. Write a paragraph telling about your life, your day, what you like best about being that animal, where you live, or anything else you'd like to tell.

What do you like about this season and why? Be descriptive!

Green:
Do a page from Easy Grammar.

Write a letter to a friend or relative.

Study your spelling words.

Work in your handwriting book.

Hope that helps give you some ideas!

Wow! And Wow! I really like this idea because besides being LA, my main academic love, it's an independent study aid for the child. Hmmmm... the wheels are turning. Did you say what ages/grades you used this for B?

These are fabulous ideas! I really need to set up something like this for the boys. Perhaps it will be a Christmas Break project!
