I recently had the pleasure of being able to read Creating an Atmosphere of Learning, the first e-book by Brenda from The Tie That Binds Us. (Brenda is, of course, also a writer here at The Homeschool Classroom, amongst the many other things that she does.)
First, I have to say that I really enjoyed that Creating an Atmosphere of Learning is clear and concise. We all have such busy lives, don’t we? I will admit that I often don’t take the time to read just for myself and my own enjoyment, as much as I would like to. This made Brenda’s e-book perfect for me, I was able to sit down and read it in one sitting, though I am sure that I will want to refer back to it later.
Creating an Atmosphere of Learning is full of ideas that are outside the textbook box. Brenda stresses the importance of making learning something that happens all the time — from the music you listen to during the day to the toys that you provide for your kids to the art supplies that you choose. It probably isn’t surprising, but Brenda’s e-book stresses quality over quantity. Though this would seem to be common sense thinking, I know that it’s so easy to fall into the trap of more is better.
I really enjoyed reading Creating an Atmosphere of Learning. I was inspired to try to add at least a few of Brenda’s suggestions as we start back to school in January. I especially would like to do that, since we have been enjoying a more relaxed schedule for these last two weeks of school in December, and it has been wonderful. The kids are learning and doing, while at the same time saying, “Are we going to do school today?” To which I have to tell them, “This is school.” I have felt a bit like I was slacking, but after I read Creating an Atmosphere of Learning, I thought, “Hang on — this is exactly what we’ve been doing!”
This is usually the point where I would have to say something like that we have a special coupon code for you to get a discount on Creating an Atmosphere of Learning. But, I’m happy to tell you that Creating an Atmosphere of Learning is free! Thanks so much for that, Brenda!
