Thank you for the great reminder that it is possible. My oldest is only 3, but it seems like everyone jumps ahead and wants to know how I will teach her Calculus and Physics. It's possible that we'll encourage them to go to a charter school (or something of the sort), but I appreciate your reminder: if this is what I'm supposed to be doing, I will be helped along by powers much greater than myself.

Great post! Thanks for all this info. Our state also offers the double credit, and I am hoping to let my oldest take her lab science there :) I am looking forward to starting homeschool high school with my girl next year and need all the encouragement I can get!

This is great advice. I think another important factor in this decision is student choice. My mother homeschooled me, but let me choose what I wanted to do for high school. I chose to attend public school, and am SO glad that I did. While there, I was able to test the waters--spiritually speaking--and deal with peer pressure and other issues while still living at home with my parents. With Mom and Dad's constant counsel, I made it through cheerleading, proms, parties, and sporting events without ever once compromising my standards. I know that the experience really helped me prepare for college, which was a shocking, parent-free party world that I don't think I would have been as prepared for without my high school "training" (and this was a strict Christian college!).

Now that I'm teaching my children at home, I'm preparing them for similar decision making experiences by letting them consider their education options and prepare to choose part-time enrollment, full time enrollment, or home school in their teen years. I'll always be grateful to my parents for doing the same with me! :)
