Some may feel guilty about taking a day “off” to do some of the rut exploding activities you mention. But actually, the increase in productivity that comes after the fun day will make it very, very worthwhile!
We often have these days. And I think it’s best when it’s spontaneous IE I don’t tell my daughter ahead of time.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I am so glad to read about how you handle all the problems and ups and downs. This is my first year in homeschooling, I am still figure out what to do and what to avoid. I think I put too much on me and my 7 years old. I got to relax sometimes.

Thanks for your comment! I do try to pray about what direction to take when I feel a rut coming on. I used to meet my husband at the door in tears, but now I know that is NOT the direction you should take! LOL Anyway, I’ve found now that different things help me at different times. Sometimes I need to back off, sometimes I need to get a bit more serious. The important thing is that now I’m able to gauge when I’m headed for a rut aka meltdown and can do some damage control before it happens.

I think your mom had a great idea enlisting the help of another homeschool mom. It’s so wonderful when we can encourage one another and build each other up!

Thanks for stopping by and reading my article and I love having comments.:)

This is also the time of year that I really begin to feel a rut coming on. It’s so hard to get back on track after the holidays! We ease back into the swing of things, plan a couple field trips and try to get together with some homeschooling friends. It’s amazing how refreshed you feel after a good, HONEST conversation with another homeschooling mom!

What do you do when you feel a rut coming on?
Pray?
My mom used to have a friend (who also homeschooled) come over and they would swap kids:) We liked it, new face, new rules, different work.
This is my first year and I am still figuring out what to do for my own family and I very much appreciate these kinds of posts, they not only help to make me feel better but give me great idea’s.
