Six years ago as I moved through the daily life as a married mother to three getting through our morning routine, moving into the working routine and eventually switching gears back to the wife/mother routine for the evening, I would never have guessed that this would be my life today.
What sort of life?
The married, homeschooling mother to three, who pursues her hobby of writing in between all those other things and still manages to keep her sanity; although some people may disagree on that. The married, homeschooling mother, who has yet to find a way to keep all those projects from overtaking the house. The married, homeschooling mother, who loves the life learning a whole lot more than the boring book work learning. The married, homeschooling mother, who has chaos all around her but would not change it for the world.
Five years ago my family embarked upon a life changing journey that has changed our way of life, our way of thinking and most of all has changed our family for the better.
Is our journey hard?
Oh my! Is it ever but if we don’t do the hard things in life who will? If we do not take responsibility for our own actions and our own families as we grow, nurture, love and eventually send them out into the world, then who will?
Is our journey rewarding?
YES! When you are able to see more milestones in your child’s life then you ever thought possible beyond walking and talking but educational milestones that you helped that child achieve, it is WORTH every minute! When you can have a horrible bad day and think that your child is not paying attention or that you are failing as a teacher or even as a mother, only to find that the very next day, your child has gotten the concept because persistence paid off. It is WORTH it! The simple act of a child’s smile, their hug and a simple “Mommy, I Love You” makes it all WORTH it!
Is it for everyone?
No. Unfortunately, it is not. However, I often think of the parent who says that they could never teach their own child or children at home, is the very parent who needs to seek out homeschooling because that parent will most likely find in their child a whole new world they never imagined could come from a child, let alone their own.
Don’t you feel alone?
At times, I do but then I realize I have the Lord as my guide when I feel the loneliest. Only he could have turned our family around as he did. Only he could have opened my husband and I up to this. By his grace and a whole lot of trial and error, I have learned I am never alone on my journey.
There are also many support groups through the internet and within your area that homeschooling doesn’t have to feel like banishment from the outside world. If anything the freedom that comes with homeschooling should be liberating.
Life is Funny!

Very similar journey for me. Started homeschool 12 years ago, was only going to do 7th and 8th grade, but it has evolved into all the grades. And yes, I love it and it is hard, but I would never go back. Two kids in college, one graduated. Things look good.
The link for Amanda at All American Family don’t work. :) Would like to visit if you could provide a working like. Thanks.
Your journey has been mine! I wouldn’t change my lifestyle today for anything, other than to seek out ways of being even more “at home!” God bless!
