This spring, I am hosting a Show and Tell mom event for homeschool curriculum. Each mom will be asked to bring as much homeschool curriculum with her as she is willing to load and carry. Then, we will all spend an afternoon browsing each others books, CDs and DVDs. We will ask questions to those who have used it and maybe even borrow a few items for further inspection.
- Make a list of all the homeschool moms you know- past and present, to invite. I prefered to only invite those I know, but you could reach out and invite a local coop or group. Too many people make it harder to talk and keep track of your things, though.
- Decide on a location. You will need space to set up some tables and room for all the ladies to sit. If you have more ladies coming than space in your home, consider renting a community room or event room at your church. Remember to ask the ladies to bring card tables if they have them.
- Decide what snacks to have and how they will be served. You may ask everyone to bring a snack to share or a drink. Or maybe pitch in for pizza half way through.
- Ask the moms to send you some highlights of what they will be bringing. You might also ask if there is anything anyone really wanted to see. One of the ladies might have it to bring.
- Send out a reminder email a few days in advance. You will want to include those lists of highlights to get everyone excited and the items others wanted to see to try and fish out those books if anyone has them. Also remind people of tables/chairs/snacks they are to bring.
- Ask everyone to have their names written inside their books!
ON THE DAY
- Arrive early and set up tables and chairs. Prepare any refreshments.
- If the ladies won’t know each other, you may want to provide name tags.
- Post a sign to remind everyone to have their names in their books.
- You may want to provide extra pads of paper or note cards and pencils. There will be things everyone wants to write down.
- Give each lady an area to set down her materials. Grouping them by owner may not be the easiest for browsing, but will result in less material mix ups.
AFTER
- Send out a note to thank those who came and recap how many came, etc. to everyone. Someone who did not come this time may come next time because of this email
- Call anyone who left materials behind. It is best to keep all the materials yourself that are left behind instead of sending them along with someone else to be passed back.
- Make a list of what worked and what didn’t. File it away somewhere safe for next year.

That would be awesome, but the only other homeschooler I know is my sister! LOL! What a fun day that would be though!
Nothing like hands-on observation to really see what’s out there!
