Thanksgiving, Past and Present

I know this is unusual for us to link to ourselves, but with Thanksgiving coming up, I wanted to share some of the resources that you can find right here on The Homeschool Classroom as well as a few more recent ideas from other places around the net.

Thanksgiving is… – The Homeschool Classroom

A Thanksgiving poem to reflect on.

Thanksgiving Activities – The Homeschool Classroom

Several simple craft activities  that you can create with your children during the holiday.

Resources For Teaching Kids About Thanksgiving – The Homeschool Classroom

This post offers many excellent resources to learn about the history of Thanksgiving.

Great Homeschool Links:  November 12, 2010-Give Thanks – The Homeschool Classroom

This list contains some great resources of activities from finger painting with cranberries to a printable Thanksgiving preschool learning pack.  There is also a November 2010 activity calendar but the ideas are still very usable.  NOTE:  The link Thanksgiving Games for Kids, doesn’t exist any more, I’m sorry.

Thanksgiving Games – Family Fun

If you need some active entertainment for the kids, young and old, here are a few games that should burn off some of that energy and/or over-eating.

Top Turkey Tunes for Tots – About.com

Here is a list of fun songs to play for Thanksgiving.  The links all point to where you can listen, download, or purchase.

New Plymoth Plantation Virtual Field Trips – Scholastic.com

Three videos that showcase what life was like in colonial America, but if you look at the top of the page you will also notice tabs for the Voyage of the Mayflower, Daily Life, The Thanksgiving Feast, and Teacher Resources that you may find useful.

Give Thanks: Free Printable Thanksgiving Gathering Printable Set – Whatever Dee Dee Wants

My favorite printable from the set is the activity place mat.  This is a great way to keep the children preoccupied for the last few minutes before the feast is served.
