Homeschool Teacher Desperately Seeking Room Mother

My oldest went to school for six years before we began homeschooling and for six years, I labored as her room mother. The first couple of years, it was an exhilarating honor to be chosen. I threw myself into the job and was a steady presence at the school. By third grade, I’d earned a solid rep and couldn’t get out of it if I tried.

Now as a homeschool mom, I see how valuable I really was. So I hope you’ll understand why I am considering placing this ad in our local newspaper.

Homeschool Teacher Desperately Seeking Room Mother

Planning parties, enforcing teacher appreciation, grading papers, calling in back-up support, making phone calls, reading to kids, surprising the teacher with home-baked goodies, organizing plays, cleaning up after art projects, facilitating games, providing assistance on field trips, etc. You will also be required to plan and implement two large-scale fundraisers per year to help pay for our curriculum.

Skills Required:
You must be organized, friendly, patient, administrative, creative, thoughtful, efficient, well-read, and great with kids. Good listening skills and coffee-making expertise is a plus.

There will be no monetary compensation, but lots of rewards in hugs and kisses. The kids will thank you, too.

Any takers?

When she’s not fantasizing about having her own room mom, Angela can be found blogging about the ministry of raising a family, being a wife to rush home to, and how every mom needs a break at Homegrown Mom.

  1. LOL! I love this. I think I could use 2 room moms and an assistant. :)

  2. Your post made me laugh! Great post! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought that a FULL support staff would be very helpful around here. You know – lunch room workers, teacher’s assistant, librarian, etc. I had never though of a fund-raising coordinator, though!

  3. I’ve been looking for the SAME THING!! Seriously! Something less than a Co-Op, but as good as a “step-in” from time to time. A mom/young lady (or young man) that could come to my home and spend time teaching my children something that I feel is over my head or feel less than “qualified” to teach. OR to come in and do that super cool science project and make it work. LOL

  4. Amen! I’ve been thinking for weeks that I need a personal assistant — even if just for a week or so.

  5. I ♥ it! I need one as well. ☺

  6. I never thought of this. Brilliant! I like Kela’s idea. Maybe we need to enlist someone to come in once in a while and give us and our children a break or just infuse some life back into our homeschooling experience!

  7. Oh, I want one of those!

  8. LOL!
I know EXACTLY what you mean.
BTW, what type of fundraisers can you do to fund your homeschooling.
That may sound like the most silly question ever, but it never occurred to me to try that.

  9. Ugh, I hate typos. I meant to put a ? at the end of that question! Just an OCD comment on my comment, lol.

  10. That was great!!! However, I’m going to be homeschooling starting next year and I am a little more nervous now…lol. It is reassuring to know that I won’t be alone in my delightful stress!

  11. Love it! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all have a few of those? While we’re at it can we get an intern for the blog too? ;)

  15. That’s so funny!! I was a room mom for a while too, and I would love to have a room mom to make all my copies, decorate, and all those other duties I did in the classroom. Made my day- thanks!! :)
