Please Keep Roan in Your Thoughts and Prayers

I was recently surprised as one of our contributing writers, Roan from Joyful Always, sent me an email that she was working ahead on her writing commitment for The Homeschool Classroom.  While that alone wouldn’t surprise me, as Roan is always a very prompt (and wonderful) writer, but it was her reason.  She was waiting on test results to see if she had breast cancer.

My immediate reaction was for my eyes to fill with tears.  I was worried for her.  (My reaction immediately following that was to think, “I can’t believe she’s taking the time to write ahead because of this!”)

A few days later, I heard from Roan again that, indeed, her results had come back indicating that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and that a date had been set for a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction in no time at all.  (As in, she sent me that second email on March 4th, and had the surgery set for March 7th.)

I asked Roan if it would be okay to share this news with our readers here at The Homeschool Classroom, and she was very happy for me to do so.  She hoped that she might help someone who is in this situation later, as well as maybe receive advice from other homeschooling Moms who have gone through this.  (Roan also hoped that this might encourage others to go get mammograms as well.)

Roan is going to be sharing her journey with this on her blog, and I know that she would appreciate people to keep her (and her family) in their thoughts and prayers, as well as to leave her notes on her blog.

Roan’s blog has been a blessing to our family for about 2 years now. She truly is “joyful always” and continues to bless many through her perseverance and thankful heart. (My older girls crochet and knit and have enjoyed seeing all the craft projects made by Roan’s girls.) We’re not only praying for you Roan but for your entire family.

I enjoy reading The Homeschool Classroom very much. I have been inspired by many of the articles I’ve read here. Thank you for sharing about Roan. My prayer for Roan is that God would continue to give her strength and that she will trust Him fully. I prayed that the pathology results would show that the surgeon was able to remove all of the cancer and God would heal her body. Her family is also in my prayers—for God to give them the strength and encouragement they will need to walk with Roan.

  7. Thoughts and prayers, Roan.

  8. Thanks for letting us know, Angie. I’m adding Roan to my prayers.
